Welcome to Kyrabe Stories “Own Your Anxiety” book review! I love that there are so many tips to test out in this book. Will every single one work for us? For some, it’s possible. For a majority of us, most likely not. This isn’t stated to be discouraging. It’s just a case of varying interests.  Due to such a wide variety of choices within these pages, though, I’m confident that everyone can find at least one thing to assist with owning their anxiety!

Shout-out to Smith Publicity for sending me a copy to review before the release! The review and experience are of my own opinions. Also, this blog may have affiliate links. This means that, at no extra cost to you, if you so choose to participate in some of the learning opportunities here, we at Kyrabe Stories may receive a commission as gratitude from the partnering companies. Thank you sincerely for your support and for your desire to learn and grow! I hope you enjoy the blog!

Each tip had a personal story connected to it. From the name of the blog, you probably have guessed that I love stories! It was interesting reading the different ways to take control of our anxiety. As someone who has had to go to therapy for an anxiety attack before, let’s actually test some of Julian’s suggestions. Out of the book, I chose random tips to try for myself to see how well they help to soothe me!

If you already have a copy of “Own Your Anxiety” and have tested any of the tips for yourself, please share your experiences in the comments! Let’s go!

Tip #45 – Say “no” more!

I am so grateful that my blog has started to attract collaborators. With that said, OMG I went from loving to write content for others to wanting to send an audio recording of me screaming anytime someone sent me another randomize request completely outside of my niche! Let’s put it this way: including this book, I at one point had four reviews with three to begin even reading, the regular monthly blog posts to create the initial drafts for, an interview where I needed to edit the captions for, and two Teachable courses that still need formatting. I recently was not in a good spot…

For some reason, I had a fear that if I started turning down the few people that had finally started to notice me, I would be losing out on opportunities to help grow my blog. I was WRONG!!! Bless my little fragile heart, I was so wrong! Ironically enough, the first “no” I sent out seemed to have triggered more requests! More in which I kindly said “no” to! Y’all, it got to the point where a few weeks ago I made a Word Doc with a default denial message for me to copy/paste and tweak for their particular message.

I agree with this tip! Saying “no” more will not end the world. We all only have 24 hours in a day. Those who care will value our availability.

Tip #192 – Share your journey with others!

I am easily embarrassed and discouraged. It’s one of the reasons I hate public speaking with a passion! Even if no one else even noticed that I stuttered for a moment, I would have noticed and the panic would ignite. From this, one challenge I’ve had to conquer was sharing my stories…better yet, sharing the embarrassing stories. I’m talking about the Social Anxiety breakdown of unstoppable whaling tears in the middle of Sam’s Club type of embarrassing stories.

For this tip, I decided to switch up my motivational vlog posts to incorporate a slightly less embarrassing moment in Publix. During the blunder, I was a bit horrified that the words came out of my mouth when it did and an employee heard it! As I was driving home, I decided that maybe I could use that tip of sharing our journeys to turn this into a lesson about clear communication. I hope this short tale gives you a laugh as well.

Tip #23 – Quit or reduce coffee and Tip #24 – Drink herbal tea!

I saw tip #23 and almost shouted, “Oh, hell naw!” on my walk! Then I read it again and saw that REDUCE was an option. Okay, I can do that! We already had some tea at home. I just needed to replace all that sugar (this Alabama native likes her drinks super sweet). For a few weeks, I actively avoided soda and reduced my coffee to maybe 1-2 per week, and I ended up going through almost 24 ounces of honey just from trying to sweeten the tea in a healthier way.

Results: I did have a little more energy. I think I need to experiment with more tea flavors though. The Irish Breakfast is good, but the Apple Cinnamon that I decided to experiment with had me paranoid to take another sip due to the boldness in the flavor. The upside though, it had my cubicle at work smelling AMAZING!

By the way, I do still drink my Black Silk and French Roast and have my cravings for a Starbuck’s Smore Frappuccino. Maybe one day I can make the full commitment over to herbal tea, but I’m not counting on it being any time soon! ☕ #CoffeeLover

Tip #73 – Listen to what you listen to!

Drama is everywhere: TV, YouTube, the radio, at work, at school, at Panda Express because some lady is complaining that her plate isn’t moving down the line fast enough even though we’re in there during the lunch rush, OMG, LADY!!! Sorry, I digress…

Point is, negative vibes surround us every day, and it gets even worse when we voluntarily add more negativity by listening to toxic music or reading through hateful comments on trending topics out of curiosity (I’m guilty of this one on Twitter. Yeah, I know that’s horrible).

I recommend making a playlist of songs that are uplifting for you! We have a playlist on our YouTube page if you want some suggestions! Also, motivational audiobooks can be so freakin’ helpful during traffic! Surrounding ourselves with positivity can indeed have amazing effects on our emotions.

Tip #22 – Get a mani-pedi!

Out of the 99 tips in this book, I think this one freaked me out the most to try! Seriously, I’m one of the most ticklish people that you might ever meet! I feel so bad to admit this, but I accidentally donkey-kicked my cat off the bed because his whiskers gently brushed across the center of my foot!

For a birthday gift (shout-out to the August babies), my fiancé, Stevenn, was the one that treated me to a mani-pedi day! I was all up for the “mani” part, but I was side-eyeing him over the “pedi” side of this deal. That’s Danger Zone, my friend!

I’m happy to say that I did not accidentally kick the masseur dead in the jaw. It was actually quite enjoyable and relaxing after I had accepted my fate. I did have a few minor tickle freak-outs, but overall I was happy with it. Will I get another pedicure? Eh……..maybe one day, but not any time soon. I REALLY don’t like things near my feet!

So what do you think?

I barely scratched the surface of the wide variety of tips that are in this book! If you are interested in experimenting with more natural remedies for controlling our anxiety, I do highly recommend this book! It’s easy to read and super simple to skim through if you’re just looking for a quick suggestion. Julian Brass also has a community on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter if it helps to join others who are learning to own their anxiety as well.

Once again, if you already have “Own Your Anxiety“, please share in the comments if you have tried some of his tips. Did they work for you? Did it backfire instead? I look forward to reading your stories too!

And as always, remember to just live your life one story at a time!

Take care,

Kyndall Bennett from Kyrabe Stories
