We all, in some shape or form, experience analysis paralysis. And if you’re like me, you experience it a lot! Have you ever gotten super excited about trying something new, then upon the moment of that final decision to get on it, you convinced yourself to wait just a little bit longer until you were more prepared? More knowledgeable? Better experienced? Mhmm, and how long did that “just a little bit longer” last? In many of our cases, that clock is still ticking. In this post, we’ll discuss how to overcome analysis paralysis.

Analysis paralysis is when we begin to overthink our situations, creating a fear, or paralysis, against pursuing what we perceive as the unknown.

We develop this paranoia that we don’t know enough to begin working towards our goal. Instead, we spend a lot of time studying and planning but never physically doing what needs to be done. We convince ourselves that we’ll begin when we feel ready

Ask anyone who you look up to at what point did they feel 100% ready to do what they have accomplished so far. I’m willing to make a bet that the feeling did not come as early as they needed it to! Many of us go through this self-debate of, “I think I can, but what if I can’t?” Heck, I battled that doubt for writing up the script for this audiobook! Like, pffft, who am I to write anything about an issue that I battle with almost every day in hopes that it will help someone out there overcome the same issue as well?

See? I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that in some shape or form, this is a similar conversation that you have had with yourself at least once in your life. If so, thank you for granting me some of your time to read this post. I can now laugh in the face of my own analysis paralysis for trying to stop me from pushing the publish button. Ha!

The issue isn’t whether or not you can accomplish your goal. The real questions are how far out of your comfort zone are you willing to go and how many mistakes are you willing to make to finally figure it out?

We tend to forget often that the most valuable learning experiences are created by this cycle: make a mistake, learn from that mistake, do it again, make better mistakes, then do it again until you get it correct. Move on to the next task and repeat the process.

Take for instance when we were learning our very first language. We didn’t know what we were saying. We were just willing to just go, blah, blah, blah, until we figured out what was coming out of our mouths. We weren’t concerned about calling every living creature a cow or a chicken. We were just happy that we could say the word and build upon it.

Overcoming analysis paralysis is about going into unknown territory with that same wondrous mindset and improving along the way. Embrace the guarantee that you will make mistakes! Just remember that every single mistake you make is a learning opportunity that gets you closer to your goal.

So take a moment to figure out what is it that you really want to do? Write it down whenever you get a chance.

Maybe it’s to start your own business. Maybe you want to learn another language or get into better shape or write a book. The important thing is to start and to learn and improve along the way. It doesn’t matter how many books you read or how many webinars you attend or how many podcasts you listen to. These are valuable resources, but you’re not going to reach your goal until you actually do the work, mistakes and all, and that is how you overcome analysis paralysis. You got this!

Now’s let’s hear from you!

In what ways have you experienced analysis paralysis? How were you able to overcome it? Are you still trying to figure out how to overcome analysis paralysis? What are some challenges that are standing in your way? Please share your story in the comments below!

And as always, remember to live your life one story at a time!
